Don’t miss church! See you at St. John’s, Little Falls, NJ! Saint Seraphim of Sarov teaches: “I beg and implore you to go to the (Orthodox) Church. It is in all the power and glory of God!… But your chapel is like a small rowing‑boat … the waves wash over it… it would have certainly gone down if it had not been secured to the ship of our Church.” Therefore, lets us attend church regularly and ...

Reviews Summary

St. John's Church is praised for its beautiful neo-Gothic architecture, striking yellow facade, and peaceful interior. Visitors appreciate its serene atmosphere, the impressive pipe organ, and the opportunity for quiet reflection. It's seen as a lovely, well-preserved gem on Freedom Square, offering a calm contrast to the city's historic sites.

"Jaani Kirik (St. John's Church) is a lovely and often underappreciated gem in Tallinn. Located right on Freedom Square (Vabaduse väljak), it’s hard to miss with its distinctive bright yellow facade and classic neo-Gothic architecture. It provides a beautiful contrast to the modern Victory Monument nearby and is a perfect stop whether you're exploring the square or heading into Old Town.

The church dates back to the 1860s, and while it’s not as ancient as many of the medieval churches in Tallinn, it has its own charm and historical significance. We appreciated how well preserved and clean everything was — it really stands out against the more weathered stone buildings in other parts of the city.

The interior is simple but peaceful, with tall arches, wooden pews, and stained-glass windows that let in plenty of natural light. My parents in particular really enjoyed going inside to sit quietly and soak in the atmosphere. It’s not as ornate as some older cathedrals, but its calm, inviting feel made it one of their favorite church visits during our stop in Tallinn. For those interested, there are also occasional organ concerts and services that are open to visitors.

If you’re walking through Freedom Square, I highly recommend stepping inside. There’s no pressure, no crowds, and no entrance fee — just a peaceful moment in a busy city. Even if you're not religious, Jaani Kirik offers a lovely sense of calm and a meaningful glimpse into local life."

""Lucky strike"... really. We just leisurely strolled around town and then voila~! We came across a rare occasion happened in the church, The "European Raffin /Hand-turned Street Organ Festival"... and the sound of them mesmerised us for a long long time...
We appreciated those who love these "Raffin" street-organs and meticulously maintained these artistically decorated machines. My video was not here, and see if there is any chance that I could upload it.
Anyway, the music they gave out from these particular /traditional instruments are so attractive that people from a wide radius were attracted to listen to them. And the most important thing is: they all wore a smile or big grin on their faces. Watching people doing what they love is pure joy indeed.
Back to this place itself, we knew not much about St John's church history indeed. Just they could help support this special event and keep their church this sacred and nice are worth of a great praise. It gives us a feeling of peace, a very divine feeling just came up once the music festival was over. We could imagine how people led a quiet life in this neighbourhood.
We genuinely enjoyed the time inside and out of the church, and recommend anyone to check the activity calendar online before they make their trip there."

"A very lovely church situated in Freedom Square (Vabaduse väljak) in the city center of Tallinn. The church has an interesting yellow colour, and the inside is quite beautifully decorated.

I enjoyed the service here, which starts at 10:00 on Sunday, held in Estonian. They offer the Eucharist with real wine, however I had to remove one star due to them having a female pastor and masonic imagery in the church."
