Reviews Summary

The Klaksvík Ferry Terminal is an efficient service, particularly for foot passengers heading to Kalsoy. While car spots are limited and pre-booking is crucial, the journey is quick and well-organized. Some travelers found the return journey logistics challenging and recommend the bus on Kalsoy over bringing a car.

"Visited May 2025. Prebooked the ferry online to go to Kalsoy for the day. I had no issues getting on the ferry with my vehicle. There are 5 lanes in the parking area. Lane 1 for locals, lanes 2 & 3 for prebooked, and lanes 4 & 5 for people trying to get on with no reservation. There are limited spaces on the ferry so I would book in advance. It was a quick peaceful ride. Crew was very organized to get the cars on quickly and set sail."

"Leaves in time and well organized. However, I do not recommend taking your car to Kalsoy!

(1) you have to arrive more than an hour early to take your car as there are only 12 car spaces on the ferry and people start lining up very early or are already there from not being able to fit on the ferry prior

(2) you don’t need a car, there’s a bus on Kalsoy that runs frequently and stops in all of the little towns.

(3) most importantly, the ferry doesn’t run often and you get trapped on the return journey, waiting 3 or 4+ hours in your car just to get back to town. You can read more about this in the reviews for Syðradalur (K) (Kalsoy ferry terminal).

It’s best to just arrive 20/30 minutes before ferry departure and board as a pedestrian and then use the bus system. Recommended to have cash for bus and hiking fee though I think card is fine. Dress appropriately as there are not many places to get indoors if the weather is poor while you wait for bus, ferry, etc."

"An efficient ferry service to Kalsoy. We left our car in the free parking close by and went as foot passengers. Foot passengers cost about 40 kr (nov 23) which is very good value. The amenities inside are basic but you’re only on board for about 20 mins. There are different times depending on the day and time of year so best check before sailing. I’d avoid bringing your own car as there’s no guarantee you’ll get a spot and the roads are very tricky - I’ve included a video of one of the tunnels. The buses are timed to match ferry crossing making it relatively straightforward to get around."
