Reviews Summary
Temppeliaukio Church is widely praised for its stunning, unique architecture carved into solid rock, creating a memorable visual and acoustic experience. Visitors are captivated by the natural light and the impressive copper dome. While some find the entrance fee a bit steep for a short visit, many agree that attending a concert offers exceptional value and a chance to truly appreciate the church's legendary acoustics.
"Temppeliaukio Church is one of the main tourist attractions in Helsinki. Tourists come there by bus, by vans, by walking... 8 euro entrance fee doesn't matter, people wanna see what is "must see" in Helsinki. So, tourists who have only one or two days time to spend in Helsinki prefer to visit Temppeliaukio Church. One can hear there a real mix of languages.
No doubt, Temppeliaukio Church is worth of visit. It is architecturally a very special building. To create this kind of church - a church excavated into the rock, with a dome made from copper strip for ideal acoustics, with ceiling windows for natural light to come in - has been a genious insight. Even though there were so many visitors in Temppeliaukio Church when we were there, I enjoyed very much to finally see well this church."

"Temppeliaukio Church (Church of the Rock) is an absolute must-see in Helsinki! The architecture is incredibly unique!
The church is carved into solid rock with a massive copper dome. The copper wire is said to extend beyond 13 miles! It's an incredible site to see!
The acoustics inside are amazing. In addition to being a Lutheran place of worship, concerts are often held here, too. I was fascinated to learn the church was designed by two brothers with a very detailed past. The complete history can be found in books sold on site. There’s also a two-level viewing area for great picture taking!
We didn’t get charged for entry, but I’ve read that sometimes there’s a small fee of around $8. It's totally worth it either way. The Church of the Rock is a beautiful blend of nature and design. It's a perfect place to come reflect and pray throughout the day."
How it is Liz
"The church carved into rock is an impressive architectural site, especially from the inside. However, the €8 entry fee just to look around feels hard to justify — especially when for only €10 you can attend a concert, which is a vastly better deal. The acoustics are excellent. I saw a performance by the Ukrainian Orchestra and really enjoyed it. The venue was full, mostly with locals rather than tourists, which shows it's valued as a cultural hub in Helsinki. The architecture is striking and unique, though not historical — as an art historian, I found it less captivating in that regard, but it’s definitely something different and worth experiencing through music."
