The church was constructed in the Gothic Revival style and was designed by Frans Ludvig Calonius, the city architect of Tampere at the time. For instance, the first working day of the year was traditionally marked with a service at the church until the 1970s.
In 1981, the Finlayson factory donated the church to the Evangelical-Lutheran congregations of Tampere, with the condition that it would continue to be called the Finlayson Church."
