Visitors are captivated by the breathtaking, unique landscape of the pink salt pans and towering salt mountains, often spotting flamingos along the way. The drive is scenic, and the sheer scale of the salt production is impressive. However, be prepared for strong winds, limited facilities, and potential language barriers at the factory boutique.

"The drive out to this area is very breathtaking as it is equal to the sea level and very fascinating going down this way. We arrived and there is a large car park and a short walk to the observation deck. The development of the saline pans are so interesting to read about and observe as there are a few seats to sit and relax. On the way there we also saw some flamingos!"

"The vast area of saline has great ecological and landscape interest. The development of a small number of invertebrate species provides birds with abundant food which allows unique nesting in Europe, especially flamingos.

It was at the end of the 19th century that the village of Salin-de-Giraud developed near the mouth of the Grand Rhône with the establishment of two companies related to this activity, also arousing a strong migration of foreign labor (Greeks, Spanish, Armenians, Italians ...)
In 1855 a Lyonian chemical engineer, Henri Merle bought 8,000 hectares of ponds and marshes in order to supply sodium chloride and other salts, his exploitation of cogs in the Gard.
In 1895, the Solvay company in turn moved due to the good position of the place. The salt bought from Merle establishments allows the manufacture of soda which is transported to the Savonneries de Marseille by boat via the Rhône then the sea ...

These long white hills, salt mountains or spectacular salt camels and point of view on the key tables are an interesting discovery. Camargue white gold has been stored there all year round since its harvest in September."

"Must see. Great place and myriads of colours of the water.
Me, I was wondering if flamingos get pink because of the water, or the water because of flamingos...

Salt factory is impressive and worth to visit. For sure!

Factory boutique, well, you better speak French or stay silent.
And do not come sharp 15:00 as noone is there on time, apparently. Finally, though, you can get very good salt at moderate price - this was worth waiting for 20 min :)."
