The friendly welcome and the legend of Queen Marguerite de Valois add to its appeal, making it a recommended stop for both history buffs and souvenir seekers.

"Reine Margot's House
In this 15th-century house of a wealthy merchant on the rue des Boucheries, you'll find the ski museum today.

Legend has it that Queen Marguerite de Valois spent the night here in October 1586. She then traveled throughout the country, seeking allies in her fight against the French Crown.

In the street-facing façade, you'll see two doors on the ground floor with pointed arches, and to the right of them, a window framed by a large basket-handle arch. It's immediately clear that this building was once a shop. The upper floors feature 15th-century windows. On the left, a stair turret protrudes slightly from the facade. Above the turret, you'll see coats of arms in a tympanum.

"shop in a very nice setting. Very friendly welcome and a variety of products, souvenirs and diversity of food products, local, artisanal (biscuits, syrups, candies, alcohol, jams and so on. ;) Personally, we visited many souvenir shops in other cities, and we returned there before our departure because we found better quality products and for less in this specific shop. for what interested us at least. ;) We found our little happiness there ;) Thank you again for the very friendly welcome :) Hoping that the small temporary power outage will be resolved ;) (I think so, it was just temporary and it did not prevent the welcome and friendly service ;)"

The Legend of Queen Marguerite de Valois

Queen Margot's House is steeped in history, most notably for its association with Queen Marguerite de Valois. Legend has it that the Queen, also known as Margot, spent a night within these walls in October 1586. At the time, she was traveling across the country, actively seeking allies to support her in her ongoing conflict against the French Crown. This historical anecdote adds a layer of royal intrigue to the already ancient structure. Reddit

While the house itself dates back to the 15th century and was originally the residence of a wealthy merchant, the tale of Queen Marguerite's visit transforms it into a site of significant historical resonance. It offers a tangible connection to a pivotal period in French history, allowing visitors to imagine the Queen's strategic movements and the political climate of the era. Reddit

Architectural Features and Merchant Life

The architecture of Queen Margot's House provides a fascinating glimpse into 15th-century merchant life. To the right of these, a window is framed by a large basket-handle arch, a common design element of the period. Reddit

As you look at the upper floors, you'll notice windows characteristic of the 15th century. A notable feature is the stair turret that slightly protrudes from the facade on the left side. Above this turret, coats of arms are visible within a tympanum, adding a touch of heraldic detail. These architectural elements not only speak to the building's age but also to the prosperity and status of its original merchant owner. Reddit
