The audio guide is recommended, especially for families, though some note that directions within the site could be clearer and accessibility is limited.
"Loved the museum. Lots of history from more than 600 years ago. I was expecting a little bit more maritime stuff. It is a beautiful castle with lots of interest things to see."

"Already in the 3rd century, some fortifications, a castellum, were constructed at this site.
Later, this huge castle was built and expanded through the years. Occupied by the English during the Hundred Years War, sold by the English, it became an important Naval base and part still is and off limits to visitors.
There is a well signed tour you follow through the castle. There are many galleries inside with the interesting history of the place.
At the end of that tour, there are some beautiful large wooden sculptures"
Seimen Burum
"Lovely place to get history a lesson on the area of Brest. The Chateau covers a huge area and housed inside is the Marine Museum. Naval history at its best! Models of ships used throughout France's conquests and exploration expeditions are on display. Plenty to keep the kids engaged. The views of the bay are fabulous as well."
