"I'm not rating the observatory as I didn't go inside but I'm rating the hiking area and the view from the top. You can go by car and there's enough parking on top, then you will be able to start doing hikes in different directions with a wonderful view. Totally worth it. Very accessible and easy trails. We've also seen some deers running around in the woods."

Sorin Pascar

"Great place to start a fairly flat hill top walk. Magnicent views, smell of wild thyme and lavender. Lovely wildflowers in the Spring, lots of butterflies in the Summer, including small blues .
Cooler than the coast and plenty of fresh air. Real opportunity to commune with Nature.
Believe it is now closed at the weekends."

Stargazing and Astronomy

The Calern Observatory is, by its very nature, a prime location for observing the night sky. Its elevated position and distance from the light pollution of the French Riviera make it an exceptional spot for both amateur and serious stargazers. The clear, dark skies offer a fantastic opportunity to witness celestial wonders, from distant galaxies to planetary details. While the observatory itself is dedicated to astronomical research, the surrounding open plateau provides ample space for setting up telescopes and enjoying the cosmos. Reddit

For those interested in astronomy, visiting during a new moon phase will offer the darkest skies and the best visibility. It's advisable to check the observatory's specific public viewing events or guided tours if available, as they can enhance the experience. Even without specialized equipment, the sheer number of visible stars and constellations can be awe-inspiring. Remember to dress warmly, as temperatures can drop significantly at night, even during summer. Bringing a red-light flashlight is also recommended to preserve night vision. Reddit
