The Noël au Quai market on Quai du Mont-Blanc is praised for its magical festive atmosphere, stunning lakeside location with Mont Blanc views, and a good variety of local and international food and crafts. However, a significant number of reviews warn of extreme overcharging, particularly at the olive and tapenade stall, which has led to negative experiences for many visitors.
"Actually planned our trip around this market and it was really worth it. Lots of different local produce options. The coffee/hot chocolate cart there was the best I had in the whole of Europe. It was also breath taking to look out and see the mountains. They also had clothing shops"

"I went to the farmers’ market in Chamonix on Saturday and visited the olive stall next to the spice stand – I believe it was the only olive stall there. I bought around 80g of olives and was charged €9.90, which I didn’t question at the time as I was juggling two small children in 30-degree heat.
When I got home and worked it out, the olives were marked at €33 per kilo, so I should have paid around €2.50. I was charged almost four times the correct price. The stallholders were laughing at the time, and it felt very much like they knew what they were doing – taking advantage of a distracted tourist.
It’s really shameful behaviour, and frankly, it brings down what is otherwise a wonderful and vibrant market.
Having now looked at other reviews, it seems I’m not the first person this has happened to. These vendors clearly have a pattern of doing this. Visitors – especially those who don’t speak French – be very cautious at this stall.
Edited: just read this happen to two other people today! Shameful!!"

"DO NOT go to the stall selling olives/dips/tapenades. We asked for two tapenades and he tried to charge us €65!!! Told us it was his best price and threw in a 'complimentary' bag of olives. We told him we couldnt afford this as we are two young travellers so we asked for one tapenade. Ended up paying €24 as we were intimidated. We were told initially the price was €29/kg. Got home and weighed the tapenade to find it was 450g, so we were way overcharged. An awful experience that ruined our day, it was evident we weren't rich tourists so quite disheartening to be taken advantage of. I see we were also not the only ones with this experience so beware!"
