Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the absolutely stunning panoramic views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding Alps from La Flégère, calling it a photographer's paradise. The accessibility via cable car and the well-marked hiking trails, particularly the Grand Balcon Sud and the route to Lac Blanc, are highly praised. However, some guests have found the assistance from certain chairlift staff to be lacking, and those with a fear of heights may find some exposed sections challenging.
"I hiked from Les Praz through beautiful forest and small waterfalls to here. The views over to Mer de glace and Mont Blanc are amazing. I also used the shop which was nice too."

"It’s simple once you get on the ground in Chamonix and talk to the tourist office… but if you’re like me and am trying to do a good single day visit with kids and a dog, this is to help you out. Probably just my limited research, but I had a difficult time figuring out exactly what we could do by reading articles.
You can take a cable car from here with a dog up to La Flégère. You then hike west along the mountainside for 3.3 miles / 5.1 k along the Grand Balcon Sud trail in the direction of Brevent and Les Praz. It’s a great hike that younger kids can do without too much heart burn - ours are 11, 13 and 16. Younger can definitely do it if they are active and adventurous. You have a view of Mont Blanc the whole way.
From Les Praz, you can take the cable car down to Chamonix, hike up to Brevent, or cable car up to Brevent. The view up at Brevent is great, but no worries if you cut it off at Les Praz.
We did pay the money to cable car to Brevent (with the dog). We then took the cable car down to Chamonix and found a nice gravel path out of Chamonix back to where we parked. About 7 miles in total, but lots of opportunity for food and drinks and rest at Les Praz, Brevent and Chamonix.
Key notes:
- We did this in early August. We arrived at 08:30 (cars start at 8:15). I’m sure the car park was full before 9:30. Start early and you’re good to go.
- Just work out the route and necessary tickets with the helper at the kiosk.
- The trail to Les Praz / Brevent is super well marked once you take the cable car up. I did follow an All Trails route though to be sure."

"Great views, was windy and scary if you have height phobia. The chair lift seems faster than others. Great experience with panoramic views. Worth a visit though try not to go during this closing hours as it can be too rush. The staff at the counter when buying tickets is helpful and kind. As for one of the staff who is working at the chairlift area, he seems unhelpful and does not guide us when we took the chairlift. Seems like he’s leaving us to figure out how to safely board the chairlift to go up to the highest point. The staff at the highest point was nice though. Good to try the chairlift but at your own risk as nobody would be there to assist or advise!"

For a more challenging and iconic trek, the hike to Lac Blanc is a must-do. While the route from La Flégère is considered the easier option, it still requires good physical condition and proper footwear. Early in the season (late June), you might encounter snow, making hiking poles and even crampons advisable for inexperienced hikers. The reward is a breathtaking alpine lake that perfectly mirrors the surrounding peaks.
For experienced mountaineers and climbers, La Flégère also provides access to L'Index, a starting point for more advanced high-altitude routes and alpine climbing.
