Reviews Summary

Reviewers consistently praise the Passerelle du Vieux Moulin for its 'beautiful' and 'old-fashioned charm,' highlighting its picturesque views of the Meuse River and its convenient location near the Arthur Rimbaud Museum. While some note its narrowness, this is often seen as part of its unique character.

"At the foot of Mount Olympus, along the Meuse River, lies an area known as the Mount Olympus Plain, which is equipped with tourist facilities. A pedestrian bridge connects Charleville to the mountain via Vieux Moulin Island.

When it was built in 1933, it was the first suspension bridge in the Ardennes. The structure, built by the company Leinekugel le Cocq et Fils, of Larche in Corrèze, was completed on August 30, 1934, and inaugurated by the mayor of Charleville, Charles Boutet, on September 16 of the same year. It has two spans with a 64.20 m opening, with a central pier and a total opening between abutments of 127 m. The deck is 3.40 m wide, including 2.50 m for pedestrian traffic. It was destroyed during the Second World War. Rebuilt at the Liberation by the original builder, it was extensively renovated in 2007"

This historical journey adds a layer of depth to the simple act of crossing. It's a testament to the enduring spirit of Charleville and its connection to the Meuse River. The bridge's design, with its two spans and central pier, offers a unique perspective on engineering from its era. Its relatively narrow deck, designed primarily for pedestrian traffic, contributes to its intimate and old-fashioned feel, making it a cherished landmark.
