What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Château de Chastellux is often described as a 'hidden gem' with a fascinating history, particularly its continuous ownership by the same family for nearly a millennium. Visitors praise the knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides who bring the estate's past to life, and the beautiful park grounds offer a serene escape. However, some visitors have experienced disappointing tours due to unengaging guides, and the reliance on French-only tours can be a barrier for non-French speakers.
"A real hidden gem. You round a bend in the road just outside the village of Chastellux and all of a sudden, there it is, like having stumbled upon Beauxbatons from the Harry Potter stories concealed in the French countryside.
Tours run three times a day from July to September and last for an hour. The guide, Marie (very kind and helpful, spoke English well), is full of knowledge and enthusiasm for the history of the site and the Chastellux family who have lived there for 1000(!) years and played an important role in French (and American) history.
Well worth a visit if you are in the Morvan area of burgundy."

"Guided tour was very disappointing. The only reason for this was the gentleman giving the tour. Hugely grumpy. Doesn't make any effort to help tourists."
Dominique Mulders
"Beautiful chateau, enjoyed the tour. There are only set times to visit the castle so best to check the website
Also, our guide was fantastic! She absolutely made the difference."
