"The Carp Pond is an iconic body of water located in the grounds of the Château de Fontainebleau, to the south of the estate, near the Cour de la Fontaine. It covers approximately six hectares and is surrounded by French-style gardens, providing a peaceful and pleasant setting for strolling. Created during the reign of Francis I, this pond has been enlarged and embellished over the centuries. It owes its name to the carp that were introduced there, notably thanks to a gift given to Henry IV. An octagonal pavilion built in 1662 by the architect Louis Le Vau adorns this site. Restored in the early 19th century, this pavilion served as a place of relaxation and a venue for nautical festivals under Napoleon I and Empress Eugenie.
