Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Louvre-Lens Park to be a refreshing and pleasant extension of the museum, particularly appreciating the unique landscape design and the relaxing atmosphere around the pond. While some find the garden less 'interesting' than expected, others praise its open spaces and dog-friendly nature. It's a recommended spot for a leisurely stroll and connecting with nature.

"Walking around the museum in he park was refreshing."

Mahmood

"The garden is uninteresting apart from the deckchairs around the pond. We were expecting something more original and a flowery, tree-lined, colorful garden with at least a few statues scattered throughout, but unfortunately we were left wanting more..."

Céline David

"The park forms an extension of the museum from west to east. It is accessible via 6-7 entrances. Labeled a remarkable garden, it benefits from an entertainment program in July and August. It is a pleasant park for walking, dogs are allowed on leashes. The park has facilities: restrooms, water fountains, numerous benches, deckchairs in the summer. On the Liévin side, the main access is at the end of the Jean Jaurès parking lot (123 rue Mirabeau) which adjoins the Louvre conservation center. From there, a 600m path leads you to the lake next to the museum. On the Lens side, the park offers a vast plain opposite the monumental steel works of Bernard Venet. You can reach the parking lot on rue Paul Bert or the Bollaert stadium or via a former mining horseman to reach Lens city center. When you reach the Césarine bridge, simply go under this bridge to find yourself facing Boulevard Basly, the city's main artery."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Landscape Design of Catherine Mosbach

The Louvre-Lens Park is a testament to the innovative landscape architecture of Catherine Mosbach, who envisioned it as a 'living landscape' that complements the museum's striking architecture. Instagram Unlike traditional manicured gardens, Mosbach's design emphasizes naturalistic elements, creating a dynamic and evolving environment. The park is characterized by its vast open spaces, subtle undulations, and a thoughtful selection of plant species that change with the seasons, offering a continuous dialogue between nature and the built environment. This approach transforms the park into an experience of 'living together in the open air,' integrating art and nature seamlessly. Instagram

Key features include the expansive plain on the Lens side, offering panoramic views, and the central reflecting pond surrounded by deckchairs, which becomes a social hub during warmer months. Reddit The design intentionally blurs the lines between the park and the surrounding industrial heritage, transforming former mining sites into areas of natural beauty and cultural significance. This thoughtful integration makes the park not just a green space, but a narrative of the region's past and future. Instagram

Visitors often remark on the park's refreshing atmosphere and its ability to provide a sense of calm and openness. Reddit It's a space designed for contemplation, relaxation, and gentle exploration, inviting visitors to connect with nature in a unique, art-infused setting. The park's design encourages a slower pace, allowing for a deeper appreciation of its subtle beauty and its connection to the Louvre-Lens museum. Instagram

Art and Installations in the Park

The Louvre-Lens Park is not just a natural landscape; it's also a canvas for contemporary art. Several installations are thoughtfully integrated into the park's design, adding another layer of discovery for visitors. One notable piece is 'In ovo,' created by the @collectifartimuse, which involved local community members and students in its creation. Instagram This collaborative artwork highlights the park's role as a space for community engagement and artistic expression.

These art pieces are designed to interact with their natural surroundings, prompting reflection on the relationship between art, nature, and human experience. They are not merely decorative but are intended to provoke thought and enhance the visitor's journey through the park. Instagram The presence of art transforms the park into an open-air gallery, offering a unique cultural experience that extends beyond the museum walls.

While specific details about all installations may vary, the general aim is to create a dialogue between the artworks and the landscape, enriching the visitor's perception and appreciation of both. Keep an eye out for these artistic interventions as you explore the park's diverse areas. Instagram
