For the second time, I had the immense pleasure of covering the Campus Créatif musical as a photographer. When I first arrived in January 2024 at the aula of the Université Catholique de Lille, I had no idea what to expect. Of course, I knew my eldest son was one of the main actors in Memoria, so I was already excited for that. But the level of professionalism in the performances, along with the s...

Reviews Summary

The campus is praised for its beautiful architecture, vibrant student life, and helpful exchange coordinators, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, some visitors note a potentially unrewarding grading system for exchange students and a feeling that the university prioritizes its reputation over individual student support in some instances.

"Been here as an erasmus exchange student. Great people, great coordinators and I have nothing but gratitude towards them. The exchange coordinator and the onboarding team was super helpful throughout and I thank them with my whole heart. But sadly super unrewarding grading system just left a . There is 6 grades you can achieve as student. The conversions lead to funny situtations such as 14 counting as letter grade B but 13.90 counting as C. Remind you that 16 counts as an A and when you get 13.90 you are only 2.10 points away from A and 1.90 points away from the minimum threshold for C. Even though youre literally same distance from both letter grades. Since 12-14 counts as C ur grade is automatically counted as C. Super unrewarding and a slap to the face system. The whole french system has a funny thing where the grades 17-20 exist but only few people in a semester maybe get them. Theyre unreachable, especially for an exchange student who is only there for 4 months and is getting hang of everything in such a short time. So when you have literally have only 10-16 as a grading system with NO decimal grading and a horrendous conversion this causes great injustice and causes bad grades conversion for exchange students. Literally say that all of your grades are 13.90; ur put in the same basket as the person who got 12 and receive same letter grades even though you are almost 2 points higher, IN A SYSTEM WHERE THERE IS 6 GRADES AVAILABLE FOR GRADE DISTRIBUTION. Mind you the school only does finals for exchange students with 3-4 lectures only having midterms. So majority of lectures only have finals for the exchange students. So the finals are your only shot and you cant retake them if you dont fail. This creates another injustice and overall a bad taste in your mouth since, generally online exams are easier and less supervised thus a person who fails can easily retake a much easier exam whilst the person who got 10 and passed must stick with it… I never felt less rewarded by passing all 6 of my lectures. So get ready for your CGPA to dip if youre you have it higher than 3.25.-3.30 bc sadly the even if you get 13.90 you will receive the letter grade that a 12 point student receives. Even if your average is 14, your CGPA will dip bc of the conversion system. To have this many niche grading culture stuff for even the exchange students feel pointless. We are there for one semester and the “culture” of poorly grading effects our grades in home university which does not have the “culture”. If the system or the conversion does not change for exchange students, it will be a tool for destroying the CGPA’s of exchange students whilst also leaving a taste of injustice in their mouths bc of the conversion system. Overall im super thankful for every person in the exchange them that organized events, assisted me when I needed help and made me have an amazing time inside the campus. There is amazing people inside this school that youll create bonds that you wont forget. But the institutional grading structure just feels unfair to exchange students."

"I’m a history student at La Catho in Lille, and I love it. The campus is gorgeous. With cool clubs and Lille’s nightlife, it’s perfect."

"I stayed there for a few months then I left. I had a great welcome, the university itself is quite open and diverse, which I liked. But I feel like they just wanted the money. Some members of the staff just didn’t care, and I felt like they were rather protecting their reputation than actually helping the students. I think the help they were giving was just so that we feel like we’re actually paying money for something. The university just promotes its name and the programs don’t really fit the given expectations. I wouldn’t give it another try to be honest. Again, I’m not offending any member of the staff, just giving my own opinion. That’s what reviews are made for after all."
