"Basilique Saint-Martin-d’Ainay is one of the oldest churches in Lyon. Originally part of a powerful Benedictine abbey, its construction dates back to the 11th century, on the site of earlier religious structures.
The church is a fine example of southern Burgundy Romanesque architecture, characterized by its massive stone walls, rounded arches, and simple, harmonious proportions.
In the 19th century, the basilica underwent a neo-Romanesque expansion. Architect Pierre Bossan, known for his work on the Basilica of Fourvière, contributed to the restoration and expansion.
