We had the honour of visiting World War 1 battlefields in France. First, Vimy ridge. Sacred grounds for Canadians, where we walked where so many fell, through preserved trenches and tunnels. Beaumont Hammel, where the Newfoundland regiment was all but decimated. The trenches were a literal stone's throw apart. Nothing can make your mind wrap around what these men went through. #history #canada #...

Here’s a quick little trip around Vimy, we took a tour through the tunnels, of the 10km of tunnels Canadians dug 6km of them , then walked the trenches , they said at Vimy as the battle drew near, the two front lines trenches between the allies and the axis were 25m apart. I strongly suggest parking at the bottom and walking up to the Ridge .. if those dudes could fight their way up , our sorry as...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Vimy Ridge for its profound historical significance and excellent preservation. The free entry, informative museum, and the opportunity to walk through trenches and tunnels are frequently highlighted as deeply moving experiences, particularly for Canadians. Some note that the preserved nature differs from original conditions, but overall, it's considered a must-visit for its educational value and emotional impact.

"The information centre and trenches are something everyone should visit if in France. It's hard to imagine the conditions of war over 100 years ago. The centre and it's staff do an excellent job of story telling and answering questions about what happened. I found it quite emotional as a Canadian to visit it."

Malcolm Gray

"A visit to this remarkable historic site offers a deep dive into the past, where a significant battle was fought. The site is beautifully preserved and well-presented, featuring an informative museum and the opportunity to explore the original trenches. Knowledgeable guides are available throughout the area to provide insights and explanations about the events that took place here. Best of all, entry is completely free"

Vitor malheiros

"Incredible being in these preserved trenches. Of course they have been preserved in concrete and not in their original form. Also the ground is gravel and not the original mud and puddles. No need to see rats or get trench foot while visiting.

Historical and worth seeing."
