What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Tour Magne for its commanding panoramic views of Nîmes and its historical significance as a Roman fortification. The surrounding gardens offer a pleasant escape. However, the steep climb and narrow, winding stairs inside the tower can be challenging for those with vertigo or claustrophobia, and the walk up the hill requires good stamina.
"Tour Magne is originally a Roman construction offering a commanding view over Nimes and it's environs. You can climb to the top using a spiral staircase around a central supporting column to a smallish viewing balcony. It is possible to just pass on the main spiral staircase but on the other levels you need to 'tuck in' to let people pass. This may not be good if you have issues with claustrophobia or vertigo."

"It’s a bit far from the Nimes center.
A historical place and you can go to the top to see the city view.
The terrace is small however not many people on the top, you also can enjoy the view."
Rio Chen
"Cool monument! Great view from the top. You can use the pass of 3 monuments for it. There’s a limit of people to climb on the top so you might have to wait few minutes for others coming down."

🎫 🧭 Onsite Experience
Inside, you'll ascend a spiral staircase around a central column. The stairs can be narrow, and some sections require you to 'tuck in' to let others pass. There are over 180 steps to the summit.
The narrow spiral staircase and enclosed spaces may not be suitable for individuals with severe vertigo or claustrophobia. Some visitors have reported feeling uncomfortable.
From the viewing balcony, you'll get a commanding panoramic view of Nîmes, its surrounding areas, and even the Alpilles mountain range on a clear day.
The visit itself, including the climb and time spent at the top, typically takes about 30-45 minutes. Factor in additional time for the walk up the hill and exploring the gardens.
Restroom facilities are generally available near the base of the tower or within the Jardins de la Fontaine complex. It's advisable to use facilities before starting your ascent.

Late afternoon, during the golden hour, provides beautiful lighting for both the tower and the city views. Spring also offers vibrant colors in the gardens.
Drone usage is typically restricted in historical sites and urban areas. Always check local regulations and obtain necessary permits before flying a drone.
Many visitors capture the tower from the base, looking up, or from within the gardens. The view from the top is, of course, a must-have shot.
