What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the authentic, lively atmosphere and the consistently great live jazz music at Caveau de la Huchette. The midcentury vibe is a major draw, making it a must-visit for jazz lovers. However, be prepared for significant crowds, especially on weekends, which can make the space feel cramped and hot, and drinks are on the pricier side.
"If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a drink after dinner, this venue is a great choice. It’s perfect for couples or friends who appreciate live jazz music. The atmosphere is lively and authentic, and the performing band changes every night, so you’ll always get a fresh experience.
The doors open at 9:30 p.m., but the queue usually starts forming around 9 p.m., sometimes even earlier. Be prepared to line up if you want a good seat. I recommend choosing a spot on the upper level rather than the stage area, as people often stand in front of the stage and block the view for those seated nearby.
Entrance is 14 euros per person and drinks are not included. During our visit, a few guests stood in front of the high tables and blocked others’ view, which wasn’t very polite. We asked them to sit so everyone could enjoy the show, but they ignored it 😅. So it’s definitely worth arriving early to secure a good seat and enjoy the performance comfortably.
Overall, a must-visit spot for jazz lovers in Paris. Just plan ahead and come early! 🎷"

"If you want to spend a nice jazzy night this is the perfect spot, they do lots of shows everyday (recommend to come a bit early than the start time so you can have a nice spot). The entrance fee is 14 or 16 euro depending on the day, 10 if you are student. The music was great."

"I can understand the attraction for why people want to go to the spot however there is many things that made it not enjoyable night first of all. We had to wait around 40 minutes in order to get in and then once we got in it was one of the most packed places I’ve ever been. There was no space at all. You could barely move your arms and trying to push through people was one of the hardest things. It was extremely hot downstairs and you have no mobile data or any Wi-Fi the music is not bad however it is an extremely uncomfortable place to be at and to spend the night. It is impossible to even hold your drink due do a lack of space. Tickets cost €10 for students and €16 for everybody else."

The Authentic Jazz Experience
While the club is celebrated for its vibe, it's important to manage expectations regarding space. It's a compact venue, and when it's busy, it can feel very crowded. Some reviews mention difficulty moving around or even holding a drink due to the lack of space. However, for many, this crowdedness is part of the club's charm, contributing to its lively and energetic feel. The absence of Wi-Fi or mobile signal inside also adds to the feeling of stepping back in time and focusing solely on the music.
For those seeking a genuine Parisian jazz experience, Caveau de la Huchette delivers. It’s a place where the music takes center stage, and the intimate, albeit sometimes cramped, environment fosters a unique connection between performers and audience. It’s a must-visit for jazz enthusiasts and anyone looking for a memorable night out in Paris.
Navigating Crowds and Comfort
Despite the potential for discomfort due to the crowds and heat, the vibrant energy is a significant draw. Visitors often describe the atmosphere as lively and cool, with the music encouraging spontaneous dancing. However, it's worth noting that the lack of space can make it challenging to move freely or even comfortably hold a drink. Some reviews mention a lack of mobile data or Wi-Fi inside, which can add to the feeling of being disconnected but also enhances the focus on the live performance.
Ultimately, the experience at Caveau de la Huchette is a trade-off between an authentic, energetic jazz performance and the potential for a less-than-comfortable, crowded environment. Planning your arrival time and seating preference can significantly enhance your enjoyment of this iconic Parisian jazz club.
