Reviews Summary

Visitors often praise the Monnaie de Paris as a captivating hidden gem, highlighting its unique focus on the art of coin craftsmanship and the impressive historical collections. The interactive elements and the chance to see artisans at work are frequently mentioned positives, offering a relaxed yet insightful experience. However, some find the initial entrance gallery underwhelming and the path through the museum can be a bit confusing.

"I discovered the M.C. Escher exhibition by chance while strolling through Paris, saw the poster, and immediately knew I had to go. I rearranged my entire day around it and walked from the Eiffel Tower past the Louvre on my way, which already set the perfect tone.

The moment you enter the exhibition, you’re welcomed by a large reflective globe that instantly captures Escher’s world and visual language. The ticket price of €20 including the audio guide felt very fair for an exhibition of this size and quality. I especially appreciated seeing his early works and learning about his artistic journey, including the influence of his mentor Samuel Jesurun de Mesquita, who introduced him to woodcut techniques. Honoring this connection added a beautiful depth to the experience.

All of Escher’s iconic works are presented, alongside interactive elements for visitors, though I personally chose to simply observe and absorb the art. I left feeling deeply inspired and creatively charged. A lovely coincidence was finding an art supply shop nearby, where I bought a pencil and pen and started drawing as soon as I got back to my hotel. If you’re in Paris, this exhibition is an absolute must-see. Seeing Escher’s work in person is truly extraordinary."

Iris Reihs

"Mixed feelings about the museum, while leaning very positive. The entrance gallery (before going upstairs) was underwhelming and lacks maintenance, as the panels are worn out and several of the letters can't be read. But the addition of an augmented reality link to 'view' craftsmen at work was a good idea. The first upstairs room felt like a local museum (where you'd take school kids for a trip), while noting the exceptional quality of the coins and medals on display (they may be century old but looked as if minted yesterday). The wow factor came in the main room, which had several immersive stations and a craft person to talk about their work. From here on, it was a strong and modern way to engage. The path was rather confusing though, with going down (to watch a movie in french only) to come back up and then struggling to find the exit. I liked the free coin and exchange idea. Overall, a lot of thoughtful work went into this but there are a few bits to fix still."

Philippe

"Went there for MC Escher's exhibition, and visited the museum as the ticket was included. The place is great and well located. The Musée itself is less interesting."
