What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Moulin Rouge offers a dazzling, high-energy cabaret experience, often described as a fun and kitschy spectacle that captures the essence of Parisian nightlife. While the show itself is generally enjoyed, many find the dinner package to be overpriced and underwhelming, recommending skipping it in favor of pre-show dining elsewhere.
"We paid €255 per person for our experience. We were given the option to choose one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert, with two options for each. Our expectations for the food were quite low, but we were pleasantly surprised! The dishes were well-balanced, and the beef (starter), salmon (main), and chicken (main) were tender and flavorful, reminiscent of dining at a decent Parisian restaurant. Each person also received half a bottle of champagne as part of the package, so we had a full bottle for two people.
Before the show, you get to enjoy live music while having dinner.
I’ve attended this show before, but I had forgotten how magnificent it is! Everyone should experience the Moulin Rouge at least once in their lifetime. It’s absolutely worth every penny, and I’m surprised they don’t charge more!
Thank you to the team for all your hard work in providing such an amazing show for us, the customers!"

"We chose the package without food, just champagne as we already had dinner plans.
While £150 per person to see a show and have some fizz is a lot of money, it was worth every penny.
The scale of the show was phenomenal, the acts breathtaking, the sets spectacular, the venue iconic.
So pleased we went."

"We booked a table for 4 with the 'Belle Epoque' dinner menu. The food was absolutely delicious, staff was great and the show... oh >The Show"

No, the Moulin Rouge is a live cabaret show, not a Moulin Rouge musical in the Broadway sense. While it features singing, dancing, and elaborate costumes, it's a variety show with different acts, distinct from the Baz Luhrmann Moulin Rouge film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.
🎫 ✨ Onsite Experience & Etiquette
The Moulin Rouge has a smart casual dress code. While they state 'elegant attire,' many Reddit users advise dressing up as if for a dinner party. Avoid sportswear, shorts, flip-flops, and trainers. A collared shirt and dress shoes for men, and a dress or smart trousers for women, are appropriate.
Photography and videography are strictly prohibited during the Moulin Rouge show. This policy is in place to protect the performers' rights and ensure an uninterrupted experience for all guests. You can take photos in the lobby before the show.
Absolutely! Many solo travelers, including female solo travelers, have reported having a fantastic time at the Moulin Rouge. It's a great way to enjoy a classic Parisian night out, and sometimes solo guests even get better seating.
Seating preferences vary. The 'Can-Can seats' right at the front offer an immersive experience but might require some neck craning. Other popular choices include the first row not on the stage but with small tables, or the Dress Circle for a comprehensive view of the entire theater.

Tailored advice for your travel style
🚶♀️ Solo Travelers
To make the most of your solo visit, consider booking an earlier show and arriving a bit early to explore the lively Montmartre area. This allows you to soak in the atmosphere at your own pace before the show begins. Don't hesitate to treat yourself to this iconic Parisian spectacle alone – it's a perfectly enjoyable and safe experience.
💖 Couples & Romantic Getaways
To enhance the romantic vibe, consider having a pre-show dinner at a charming restaurant in the Moulin Rouge area before heading to the cabaret for the show and champagne. Dressing up adds to the special occasion feel, making it a perfect opportunity for memorable photos and shared moments. While some find it 'overrated,' many couples still enjoy the unique spectacle as a fun night out.
💰 Budget-Conscious Travelers
Consider attending an earlier show or a weekday performance, as these might sometimes have slightly lower demand. Also, plan your transportation using the efficient Paris Metro to avoid expensive taxi fares. By prioritizing the show itself and being strategic with dining and travel, you can enjoy this iconic Parisian cabaret without completely breaking the bank.

The Dinner Experience: To Dine or Not to Dine?
Opting for a show-only ticket with champagne is the preferred choice for most seasoned visitors. This ensures you get to enjoy the iconic spectacle without the added cost and potential disappointment of the meal. The focus should truly be on the spectacular performance and the vibrant atmosphere, not the culinary offerings.
By skipping dinner at the venue, you free up time to explore the charming streets of the Moulin Rouge area and find a pre-show dining spot that truly enhances your evening in Paris.
Seating & Views: Finding Your Perfect Spot
For those who prefer a broader perspective, seats in the first row that are not directly on the stage but still have small tables are highly recommended. These provide a great balance of proximity and a comfortable viewing angle. Another excellent option mentioned by travelers is the Dress Circle, specifically seats like A21, which offer an amazing view to appreciate the entire theater and all the intricate details of the show.
Websites like Seatplan.com can be helpful resources for visualizing different seating arrangements and understanding sightlines before you purchase your Moulin Rouge tickets. Consider what kind of experience you're looking for – close-up interaction or a panoramic view – when making your choice.
The Dress Code: Embracing Parisian Glamour
Think of it as going to a fancy dinner party or a special night out. For men, a collared shirt (like a polo) and dress shoes are recommended over trainers. For women, a nice dress, skirt, or smart trousers would be appropriate. While you won't be turned away for being slightly underdressed, making an effort enhances your own experience and shows respect for the venue's tradition and atmosphere.
Ignoring the 'you do you' advice and opting for a more polished look will ensure you feel comfortable and confident amidst the dazzling surroundings of the Moulin Rouge, making your evening even more special.
