Reviews Summary

Visitors often praise the Musée en Herbe for its child-friendly approach and engaging, interactive exhibitions, making art accessible and fun for young families. However, some find the museum to be quite small, and occasional issues like non-functioning air conditioning have been noted, leading to mixed expectations regarding its size and comfort. Reddit+1

"Fun interactive exhibit for the kids. Only marking it down a star because I expected it to be longer or to have some craft areas. If we would have booked a workshop that might have been the case. As it was the kids had fun and then we went to find a park."

S BL

"Very small but really good for a toddler activity."

"Absolutely FANTASTIC museum for kids and families !

We went to see the En avant la musique exhibition, and it was brilliant!

Child friendly, there was a treasure hunt game given to the kids, the staff explained the rules directly to kids, blown away by how professional everyone was, how beautiful the exhibition was!

The kids were able to touch tape from casettes, CDs, just great!

Tips:
Buy tickets on the website in advance.

Parking: There is an Indigo parking Louvre Samaritaine right next to the museum if you are coming by car."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Philosophy of Musée en Herbe

Founded in 1975, the Musée en Herbe was conceived with a unique mission: to make contemporary art accessible and engaging for children and families. Unlike traditional museums, it prioritizes interactive experiences, hands-on activities, and playful learning. The goal is not just to observe art, but to experience it, fostering creativity and a lifelong appreciation for culture from a young age. Instagram+1

This philosophy is evident in their exhibition design, which often features vibrant colors, tactile elements, and digital installations that respond to visitor interaction. They collaborate with contemporary artists to create bespoke exhibitions that are both artistically significant and perfectly suited for young audiences. The museum aims to demystify the art world, proving that art can be fun, relevant, and understandable for everyone, regardless of age. InstagramReddit

The museum also emphasizes the importance of guided discovery. Through activities like treasure hunts, creative workshops, and specially designed booklets, children are encouraged to explore, question, and connect with the artworks on their own terms. This approach ensures that each visit is not just an outing, but an educational adventure that sparks curiosity and imagination. InstagramReddit

Navigating Exhibitions with Kids

The Musée en Herbe excels at making art accessible for children. Their temporary exhibitions are curated with young visitors in mind, often featuring themes that resonate with childhood imagination, such as digital worlds, music, or fantastical creatures. InstagramReddit

Interactive elements are key. Many exhibits are designed to be touched, moved, or even manipulated, allowing children to become active participants rather than passive observers. This hands-on approach is crucial for keeping young attention spans engaged and for helping them understand artistic concepts through direct experience. For instance, past exhibitions have involved touching cassette tapes or interacting with digital projections. Reddit

Beyond the exhibits themselves, the museum offers a range of supplementary activities. These include engaging treasure hunts that guide children through the exhibition, and creative workshops where they can produce their own art inspired by the featured artist. These activities are often led by enthusiastic staff who are skilled at communicating with children, making the learning process enjoyable and memorable. Instagram+1
