Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Musée de Bretagne for its free admission and engaging presentation of Brittany's history and culture. The multilingual information, including English and Breton, is highly appreciated, as is the beautiful modern architecture. Some note the planetarium is an extra cost and in French, but overall, it's considered a worthwhile and enriching experience.

"It's a nice thing to do while I'm Rennes. The entrance is free which was a nice surprise. You can get a glimpse about the history of the region , and an interesting fact is that besides English and French the info boards have the local language Breton as well. Going through the whole museum it will take you around 1h and a half maybe up to 3 if you read every info board."

"The architecture of the museum and adjoining library is beautiful to behold. It draws you in and opens your curiosity to explore, learn and interact with the stories within.

The permanent exhibit traces the entire span of human habitation in the Armorique peninsula from the earliest prehistory to our time and beyond. It challenges the visitor to reflect on how to manage the future of this unique place.

There is much more to see. A temporary exhibit showed the world of mountain glaciers in the Pyrenees and the life forms of the intertidal zone through the photographs of researchers. In the center of the building, a planetarium invites exploration of the cosmos. The library is connected on the ground floor and soars 6 floors to offer views of the city. There are workspaces and a small café as well.

Le Musée de Bretagne is so much more than just a museum. As a frequent visitor to Brittany, it enriched my understanding of the human geography of this extensive rocky peninsula. It has much to offer the Bretons themselves: a place to explore and understand their own culture, transmit this understanding to new generations, or simply relax in a space that stimulates the mind. Extremely well done!"

"Excellent museum. It takes a very broad view of the history and culture of Bretagne and tells it in an interesting and engaging way. As a foreign tourist I am very grateful for the English audioguide and many of the explanations also offered in French and English. And they even make it free!! Merci 🙏 Definitely worth a visit if you are spending some time in Bretagne. (And Rennes was a lovely city to visit as well)"
