"This place is special to me because I used to play here 45 years ago when I was a kid. This trip I returned to show my child, now 18, where I used to play. The area wasn’t so built up back then and the road to Gorbio wasn’t paved. Back then there were no guard rails, no parking lot, no placards explaining anything, and no trails. Now they have plaques with excellent explanations of the fortification of this portion of the Maginot line. I still wonder if they ever saw any actual action or only fired test shots. There is good parking. There is a dry toilet, compostable. There is also some outdoor exercise equipment. The views down the coast are stunning with Menton and Italy in one direction, and all of Cap Martin in the other direction. If you are not lingering, you can probably see the whole thing in half an hour."
