Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Cité de la Céramique Sèvres for its extensive and diverse collection of ceramics from around the world, highlighting both Sèvres porcelain and international pieces. The museum is noted as being interesting, especially for designers, and offers a good overview of ceramic history. However, some visitors wished for a larger collection of specific items, and parking can be a challenge due to nearby events.

"It was a lovely visit to a ceramic museum for the first time. I was curious about how these beautiful pieces were made in the early centuries, without the technology and facilities we have today. The gallery was filled with stunning artworks, including large pots and plates with intricate designs and vibrant colours. The staff were incredibly kind, and the lady upstairs explained the manufacturing process of the impressions on the artefacts. It was fascinating to learn about the cultural differences in ceramic utensils and arts from around the world. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, but if you’re looking for a souvenir, you might be disappointed, as the prices are quite high, even for small items"

"The collection of ceramics is world-class, with several national treasures and a good coverage of techniques and other countries. The museum has a strong potential but doesn't seem to be given the full means to achieve it. The window frames are rotten and leakage is only prevented through a piece of drilled plywood, paint is peeling, there are multiple cracks. There are inconsistencies and carelessness in tagging the collections, as some tags are missing, and they're bilingual (with typos) seemingly at random. The museum is also difficult to access, but it's not their fault. There is a small shop with a good selection of books. I just wish that it was better managed to become the international venue that it deserves to be."

"Interesting museum on Sèvres porcelain and ceramics. Actually, it's more than that. A great part of the museum is devoted to porcelain and ceramics (and faience and grès and majolica) from other countries around the world. The collection on the seminal work of Jingdezhen masters of porcelain is very slim (please acquire more pieces!), but it is quite interesting how ceramic was practices among sumers, Iranians, Egyptians, Greeks, Arabs, Koreans, Japanese, Italians, Germans... before becoming a craze in Europe and generate the great European productions which also include the great work at Sèvres. I liked the museum, I regret I couldn't visit the kilns and studios (only on Thursday upon registration)"
