What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Sensoria Rio offers thermal pools and wellness facilities, but reviews are mixed. While some praise its cleanliness and relaxing waters, many criticize overcrowding, strict and costly swimwear policies for men, and a perceived lack of true spa tranquility. It's often described as more of a family-friendly water park than a serene spa.
"Calling this place a “spa” is a joke - it’s nowhere near a place of relaxation. Instead, it’s an overcrowded water park for kids. Even public swimming pools offer more space and better service than this disaster.
The whole experience feels like being in a prison. You’re not allowed to bring rubber slippers, so you’re forced to walk barefoot on a slippery floor, which, given the crowd, is downright disgusting. Personal belongings? Forget about it. No phone, no proper swimwear, and staff everywhere acting like guards.
The water is muddy, the sauna is tiny, and the entire place is filled with these rough decorative stones - I slipped and scraped my shoulder badly.
To top it all off, there’s no clear information about the so-called “premium zone,” which, surprise, requires an extra fee. But at €21 for just two hours, you’d expect premium treatment by default. (Ah and +14 for swimming shorts for my boyfriend:)
A spa is supposed to be about relaxation and unwinding - you won’t get that here. This is nothing but an overpriced scam."

"It was full of people with boxers but they decided they randomly didn't allow me to enter instead of other people. They said me I could buy this stupid boxer like swimming suit for 14€ so I should pay almost twice the entrance."

"We were at Sensoria Rio in St Lary France yesterday and loved it. In fact, my sister is going back tomorrow with her husband. Someone’s long comment about not going in because the men/boys were not allowed to wear boxer swimming trunks as the only basis of their experience and review was really silly. This is a general rule in all municipal French swimming pools. The reason is obvious to me: Some people sit around in swimming boxers all day, and they are not hygienic. We spent 2 hours of pure relaxation. We wore our own suits, but saw people with the 14€ suits on and they looked fine. (and where can you get a swimming suit for $14 anywhere in the US? — Maybe Costco?) The place is squeaky clean and modern, and the staff is friendly and helpful. And don’t forget to wander in the beautifully tended gardens afterward. An easy 5 star review."

Understanding Sensoria Rio's Swimwear Policy
If you arrive without the correct swimwear, you'll be faced with purchasing it on-site. Reviews indicate these mandatory purchases can cost around €14, adding an unexpected expense to your visit. This has led to frustration for some visitors who felt it was an unnecessary upsell and a barrier to entry. It's crucial to check the latest policy on their website or call ahead to avoid disappointment and ensure a smooth entry.
This policy is a significant point of contention for many visitors, with some finding it overly restrictive and others understanding it as a standard French practice. Being prepared with the right attire can significantly improve your experience and avoid the added cost and hassle.
Navigating Crowds for a Relaxing Experience
To maximize your chances of a more peaceful visit, consider timing your trip strategically. Weekday mornings or late afternoons, after the main rush of families has subsided, are often recommended. Avoiding weekends and French public holidays is also advisable.
While the facility offers thermal pools and saunas, the overall experience can be impacted by the sheer volume of visitors. Some guests have noted that even the saunas can feel cramped. Managing your expectations regarding crowd levels is key to enjoying your time at Sensoria Rio.
The 'Premium Zone' and Additional Costs
This tiered pricing model has been a point of criticism, with some guests feeling that the base entrance fee should already provide a satisfactory experience. The lack of transparency regarding the premium zone's offerings can make it feel like an unexpected upsell.
If you are considering the premium zone, be sure to ask for a detailed explanation of the services and amenities included to ensure it aligns with your expectations and budget.
