Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning panoramic views from Rastel d'Agay, particularly the vibrant red rocks contrasting with the blue Mediterranean Sea. The hike is considered rewarding, though some sections can be challenging with loose stones. The proximity to Agay beach for a swim is a major plus.

"I've been visiting this region for a few years and have covered most of the trails in different seasons. Best time to visit is May/June when it's not too hot mid-day and the blue skies bring out the colours of the red rocks and wild plants cling to the edge of the trails. The glistening sea below makes for a refreshing swim after a cycle/hike in the hills.

Best thing to do is find your own routes and maps can be purchased at tourist info centre by Agay beach.

Some of my recommended routes near this area:
- the walking trail from Agay beach up to the French flag on the top of the Rastel meanders past houses on the hill then opens up into a lose stone track (careful descending) and then clambering over rocks to reach the peak. Excellent views across the coast. Allow about 1hr10 round trip (40 min to the top)
- Rocher de Saint Barthélemy is another route offering excellent views along the coast (if you're willing to climb the rock face where foot holes have been dug into the surface). On a clear day you can see from Cannes to St Maxime and beyond. The climb is not for those afraid of heights! Take the Rue de Gratadis off the Av des Golfs and head past the lake and up the road. It is possible to drive to within a 10-15 minute walk of the rock.
- Mont Vinaigre. The tallest peak in the Esterel can be reached by combination of car and walk. But most rewarding is if you go by bike. Take Chemin de la Louve off the Av des Golfs and keep cycling up going via Forestier house. It's all worth it for the views at the top of the brief climb on the rock. Take it easy on the excellent descent for some tight corners and watch for pot holes and cars! Depending on cycling ability allow 1-2 hours round trip
- Le Dramont. Not quite part of the Massif de l'Esterel but it's still worth a stroll. Park near Plage du Débarquement and go up from there!"
