What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning views and unique atmosphere of church rooftop terraces, often describing them as magical and unforgettable. While the ambiance and vistas are consistently praised, some find the dining experience to be overpriced for the quality of food, with limited vegetarian options noted at some establishments.
"Stopped by at this charming little restaurant during a whistle-stop tour of the Camargue having read some great reviews. I think we were lucky to get a table for lunch on a relatively quiet day out of high season. The loup de mer was perfect, simply but expertly cooked and served with puréed potatoes and roasted Mediterranean vegetables. Other tables were indulging in rather more exciting dishes, the lobster looked particularly appealing. The staff were very welcoming and very professional and it’s great to be able to see the team working in the kitchen. We will have to make another visit to Saintes-Marie’s-de-la-Mer soon so that we can go to this brilliant restaurant again!"

"Unfortunately, I would not recommend this restaurant.
The staff was ok.
The place has a nice view (by day I guess, since we went by night).
The food tho was just ok and sadly overpriced (probably paying the view more than the food).
There was only one vegetarian option (risotto).
We were a table of 5.
Beware: The menu omits mentioning the price of the “sole” fish. It is sold by weight and they don’t even mention that on the menu. There is no price at all and it’s ambiguous as it’s written right down the other fish. The staff did not mention to my brother in law that it had a different price or that it was sold by kg when he ordered. We ended up paying 66 € for the sole."

The Charm of Churches as Dining Venues
These venues often boast stunning original features, such as stained-glass windows, high vaulted ceilings, and intricate stonework, which are enhanced by thoughtful modern design. The rooftop terrace element adds another layer of appeal, offering elevated perspectives of the surrounding city. Whether it's enjoying a meal with a view or simply sipping a drink amidst historical splendor, dining in a converted church provides an experience that goes beyond just food.
Maximizing Your Rooftop Terrace Experience
When it comes to dining, be aware that the unique setting can sometimes come with a higher price tag. Reviews suggest that while the food is often good, you might be paying a premium for the view and the ambiance. Researching the menu beforehand can help manage expectations.
