A magic atmosphere in Camargue this morning at Domaine de la Palissade, listening to the enchanting voice of Vakia. Is has been a week devoted to music in and around Arles, thanks to the event Les Suds à Arles, which ends today.

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Domaine de la Palissade for its stunning natural beauty, particularly the opportunity to see flamingos and Camargue horses in their habitat. The walking trails offer a chance to immerse oneself in the unique Camargue landscape. However, some visitors have encountered issues with trail accessibility due to waterlogging and have been unprepared for significant mosquito and tick presence, leading to discomfort.

"Currently (end of March 2025) the la Sableuse path (the longest 8km) has an obstruction so you can't walk it in a loop. The path is waterlogged just next to the pole visible in the photograph and marked on the map. We tried bypassing it as probably other people before us because there were several side paths. We tried about 3 of them but they all ended with more waterlogged areas. We didn't pursue it further as we didn't want to damage vegetation. Eventually we went back the same way. I find it unacceptable that there was no information about this fact displayed as a notice or passed on to us at the place where we bought tickets. It is clear that vehicles use the path fairly often so someone in the park must have known.
I recommend this path for plant watchers. I was looking for birds and I've only seen a couple of flamingos, swans and coots. I was hoping to see more birds than that.
Beware of ticks. I walked my dog on the parking lot. Straight away I saw ticks on his face when he went close to the vegetation patches there. I also found ticks walking on my clothes and brushed them off. They seemed way more interested in my elderly dog. Turned out I didn't catch all off them because a few days later I removed 3 ticks that fed on my dog."

"I really wanted to like this place and enjoy our horseback ride through the camargue but the staff failed to tell us about the massive swarms of mosquitos awaiting us as soon as we started our journey. There were multiple opportunities for the staff to tell us or remind us about mosquito repellent and to prepare for the worst but only when we got on the ride did we realize that we were swarmed by mosquitos. We asked the instructor to turn around and she indicated that we would have to turn the whole group around and essentially ruin the ride for everyone else. I walked away with no less than 500 mosquito bites all over my body (this is not an exaggeration). The rest of the group looked equally as bitten. Potentially it’s not as bad when it doesn’t rain the day before but I cannot attest to that. If you go prepare to douse yourself in mosquito repellent and wear appropriate clothing."
