What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Musée Magnelli to be a worthwhile stop, especially when combined with the Picasso Museum, offering a good sample of Vallauris' ceramic heritage. While not a grand institution, its collection of Magnelli's art and diverse ceramics is appreciated, with Picasso's works being a particular draw. The friendly staff and peaceful courtyard add to the positive experience, though accessibility can be a concern.
"This is one museum with the Picasso museum: same building, same ticket. While I found the Picasso parts very ugly, the ceramics from Vallauris are higher quality and reflect a diversity of artists. Vallauris was reknown for ceramics for a while and the collection is a decent sample, including some basic pedagogical exhibits to feel different textures. It's a local village museum, not a major museum, but the full price at 6 euros (or reduced to 3) reflects this. Parking is easy as large cheap parkings are next door."

"A beautiful museum to visit after strolling through the shops on Rue Georges Clémenceau and the adjoining old town.
Picasso's interior painting of a chapel, "War and Peace," is worth a visit. Picasso's pottery made during his time in Vallauris is also worth a visit. There's an excellent short documentary film illustrating it.
We also enjoyed the display of posters designed by Picasso.
Also on display are magnificent pottery by other artists and a whole collection of paintings by Alberto Magnelli.
The whole museum is centered around a small courtyard, where you should stop for a moment to admire the sundial made of enameled lava by Jean-Paul Riopelle."
