Reviews Summary

Visitors are awestruck by the sheer magnificence and historical significance of Versailles, particularly the Hall of Mirrors and the expansive gardens. However, many report issues with overwhelming crowds, long wait times, and occasional cleanliness concerns in facilities. Some also mention feeling exploited by staff at the train station.

"It's a good place to visit. But it's quite huge to go through from the different halls to gardens. It's almost not possible to finish in one or two days. I only visit in the afternoon and just go through it quickly."

"0930 on a Saturday and the toilet has no paper, no hand-wash and is filthy. Also - you need a physical Navigo pass or one on your phone to get in, and if your phone has a cover, good luck getting the door to open.

Clean up your act, Versailles."

"Title: Unjust Treatment at Versailles Train Station

Date of Visit: January 25, 2024

During our family trip to Versailles, where we were a group of 11, we encountered a deeply troubling experience at the Versailles train station. This incident significantly dampened our spirits and left us feeling exploited.

After a pleasant journey on the C train, our exit from the station was unexpectedly confronted by individuals claiming to be metro employees. They accused us of traveling with unvalidated tickets, a situation we found baffling as we had been meticulous with our travel documents.

These individuals demanded a total of €200 as an on-the-spot fine, a sum that was both shocking and unwarranted. The situation escalated when they threatened that if we waited for police intervention, the fine would double to €400. This fear tactic put us under immense pressure and caused considerable distress, especially among the younger members of our family.

When we decided to record the incident for evidence and capture the faces of those detaining us, they became aggressive and demanded we put away our camera. This action only heightened our suspicions of their illegitimacy.

We stood our ground, refusing to give in to their unreasonable demands and requested police involvement to clarify the situation. However, it became evident that this was a mere intimidation ploy as no law enforcement was actually contacted.

After detaining us for an extended period, which was both stressful and humiliating, we were eventually allowed to leave. It was clear to us that this was not an official procedure but rather an opportunistic scam.

This experience at the Versailles train station was not only unfair but also an exploitation of tourists. I am taking the necessary steps to file an official complaint against these practices and urge future visitors to remain vigilant of such deceitful tactics."
