What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Église Saint-Pierre Archaeology Museum to be a fascinating historical site, particularly for its ancient architecture and preserved relics. The unique atmosphere has been likened to an adventure. However, its current closure for major renovations means many potential visitors are unable to experience it firsthand, leading to disappointment.
"Unfortunately I couldn't visit as it's currently closed for major renovation! Maybe it will open before I leave Vienne. But interestingly, this was a former Church, Saint Peter's Church, and it's now an archeological museum. It's listed as a French national monument and believed to be one of the oldest in France, completed in the second half of the fifth century. Inside there are preserved relics as this being an Abbey with most of the monks were deitised as saints. Even looking at this beautiful building from the outside fence it's remarkably impressive. Hopefully I get to explore inside before leaving Vienne."

"The Lapidaire Museum is placed in an old church, one of the oldest in France. It is worth visiting if you would like to see how churches built in 5th, 6th centuried looked like, or if you would like to see some old artefacts, like, statues, amphoras, tombs (the abbey was a burial place for bishops of Vienne), etc. To save some money, you can buy a ticket which will include a 48h access to other Vienne museums."
