"Bacharach, owes its fame to its vineyards and its wine trade. Founded by the Celts, passed later into the possession of the Archbishops of Cologne. Vines were planted here in the time of the Romans. The Protestant parish church of St. Peter dominates the centre of the town. The church was built from 1230 to 1269 as a three-aisled gallery basilica and renovated at the end of the 19th century. From 112th century until the Reformation, St. Peter belonged to the Andreas Monastery in Cologne. The church building is dominated by the west tower and received its current painting during the course of the restorationsfrom 1992 to 1995. The organ was built in 1826 by the Stumm brothers."
