"I took the train from Frankfurt for a weekend in the Black Forest. This was the PERFECT way to relax my sore muscles after hiking. I had never been to a thermal bath spa before. This was absolutely lovely. I will definitely come back again!"
Kaleigh MacKay
"As others have noted, the entry fee is too expensive. However, the overall experience is memorable, with many different rooms, including a steam room heated naturally. The reading room at the end is very relaxing and we enjoyed drinking tea and dozing in there.
The spa definitely could do with a bit of renovation. It looks tired compared to the rest of Baden Baden town centre.
I would nonetheless recommend a visit - just try to forget about the price!"

"This place is amazing...
I spent three hours in a world of tranquillity.
The facilities are fabulous, you can relax, steam, sweat, soak and swim, you lose all track of time.
Once inside the building the architecture and design is outstanding.
Really helpful staff, everything was explained clearly and how you follow a route around the different areas.
This was my first visit to Friedrichsbad, I had previously been to the large spa next-door, but this place was amazing.
I would recommend you embrace the nudity and enjoy it how the Romans used to bathe.
This is now a must visit place when I am in Baden-Baden."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Roman-Irish Bathing Ritual
The ritual emphasizes the historical bathing practices of both the Romans and the Irish, blending their distinct approaches to hydrotherapy. Visitors are guided through each stage, ensuring they experience the full benefits of the thermal waters and the therapeutic properties of the steam and heat. The entire process is designed to detoxify the body, relax muscles, and promote a sense of profound well-being.
It's important to note that on most days, this is a nude, mixed-gender experience, reflecting the historical context of communal bathing. This aspect can be a significant adjustment for some, but many visitors find that embracing the nudity enhances the feeling of freedom and connection to the ancient tradition.
Architectural Grandeur and Ambiance
Even though some reviews mention that certain parts of the facility could benefit from modernization, the historic charm remains undeniable. The architecture plays a crucial role in the overall experience, contributing to the sense of tranquility and escape from the everyday. The design thoughtfully incorporates various rooms for different stages of the bathing ritual, from the warm, humid steam rooms to the serene, quiet relaxation areas.
The ambiance is further enhanced by the gentle sounds of flowing water and the warm, inviting temperature of the thermal pools. It's a place where the visual splendor of the building complements the physical sensations of the spa, creating a holistic sensory experience that many find deeply restorative.
Navigating the Nudity and Mixed-Gender Policy
For those who are shy or new to this concept, it's helpful to remember that everyone is in the same situation, and the focus is on relaxation and well-being, not on appearance. The staff are generally very welcoming and can provide guidance on how to navigate the experience comfortably.
If the idea of nude bathing is a significant concern, Friedrichsbad offers specific days, typically Wednesdays and Saturdays, where swimwear is permitted. This allows visitors to enjoy the thermal waters and facilities while adhering to their personal comfort levels.
