"Amazing spot to swim in the Regnitz river - beautifully located with a view on the old town of Bamberg."
Mathias Braje
"The Hainbadestelle is perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, and of course, a swim in the river. Plenty of wooden sunbathing floors and benches are available. There are also numerous trees providing shade on grass lawns. There is a relatively large play area for the children. The atmosphere is mostly relaxed and quiet. A cute cafeteria stands ready with cooldrinks, icecream, and some meal options. The bathrooms are rather small but in good condition, although the floors can become a little wet due to the people swimming. Many changerooms and lockers are available. I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day there and would gladly go more often if I lived nearby. Once-off tickets are inexpensive and season tickets are also available."

The Charm of River Swimming
While the river water can be cooler than a heated pool, most visitors find it invigorating. The location itself is a major draw, offering stunning panoramic views of Bamberg's UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, including the iconic Old Town Hall perched on a bridge. This picturesque setting makes a simple swim feel like a special occasion.
For those concerned about the river's flow or depth, the Hainbadestelle is generally considered safe for swimming. The area is managed, and there are often designated swimming zones. It's always wise to be aware of your surroundings and any posted safety guidelines.
Bamberg's Culinary Delights
Another local specialty is 'Bamberger Zwiebel,' a large onion stuffed with minced meat and baked. And of course, no visit to Bamberg is complete without trying its distinctive 'Rauchbier' (smoked beer), a dark, malty brew with a smoky aroma and taste.
For a quick bite at the Hainbadestelle, you can expect typical summer fare like 'Pommes' (fries) and ice cream. The 'Kiosk Hainer' is a popular spot for these treats, perfect for a casual afternoon by the river.
The Magic of Open-Air Cinema
The setup is simple yet enchanting: a large screen is erected, and attendees can relax on blankets or chairs, enjoying the warm evening air. The backdrop of the illuminated town adds to the ambiance. It's a fantastic way to combine a summer evening with entertainment, and the atmosphere is generally very relaxed and communal.
Films shown range from current blockbusters and comedies to cult classics and documentaries. It's advisable to check the program in advance and book tickets early, as popular showings can quickly sell out. The experience is weather-dependent, but screenings usually proceed even in light rain, with cancellations only occurring in severe weather warnings.
