What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Dark Matter offers a visually stunning and unique experience, particularly the Forest Winterlights exhibition with its magical ice rink. While some find the art installations minimal, many praise the immersive atmosphere, music, and the enchanting winter wonderland setting. The ice rink can get crowded, and booking in advance is recommended for both the exhibition and skating.
"Incredibly underwhelming. Too minimal to the point where you are waiting for something to happen, for ANYTHING to happen. 30 euros entry is too much for what it is.
Convinced a group of friends to spend the evening there and had to apologise after it was finished. Embarrassing.
After reading the owners response to other negative reviews, we discovered that apparently there’s “a narrative” to each room. A story about some balls moving up and down on a chain. I’ll have whatever he’s having please. 🤣
1 star given for the room where you lie down and watch the lights go ballistic, that was pretty cool, I can totally understand why we saw someone get wheeled out to an ambulance upon arrival. That room was pretty intense!
And yes, to confirm what others have said about the ice rink. It’s very small, incredibly overcrowded and has a huge line to get on the ice too. Thankfully we didn’t get fleeced for that as well!"

"My family and I went to the Winterlights exhibition and the ice skating rink. I had high expectations but it was even more amazing than I imagined! Very wonderful, like being in a winter wonderland forest or a glacier, it was marvellous. Best ice skating experience I’ve ever had by far - especially because I don’t like the ones where all the pros are, the mainstream music and fluorescent lights. This was a very unique, immersive, and fun experience. Highly recommend!
The ice skating rink can get quite packed, as it’s not so big, but considering this was such an amazing unique experience on a Sunday afternoon, still great, still room. I would recommend another time and day though if you want more space.
I loved that there was Glühwein (mulled wine), I loved that the music was sometimes very ambient ethereal and sometimes techno electronic, the staff was very kind - not bad experiences at all, all very great service! Even though they must’ve been stressed.
I also recommend the ice skates you can get there, however if you are 42-43 you might want to plan a little bit of a wait time on busy days.
I do think it would be cool for live DJ sets or a longer music program because it could get a bit repetitive if you were there 2 hours or more. Apart from this, I don’t have much criticism at all. Quite rare to have such a smooth top-notch experience in Berlin (I say this as a Berliner)."

"I've been a few times, the main tour is comprised of 7 interactive sensorial experiences involving sounds and light.
The fireplace one was quite relaxing, while the one where you have to lay down and look at ceiling light performance was my favourite.
This winter they have a separate part where there is an ice skating ring with music and lights 🙂 this was where we spent the most time!
