What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Humboldthain Park is highly praised for its historical Flak Tower, offering stunning city views and engaging underground tours. Visitors also appreciate the park's amenities, including a summer pool and playgrounds, making it a versatile destination for recreation and history alike. Some note that the park can be a bit messy in places and that the bunker tours require booking in advance.
"It's not the park that's of interest, it is the structure within that is. You may not hear or see anything in guide books about the Flak Towers, there were 6 built, do at least have a look. We booked the tour through Berliner Unterwelten, it took 1.5 hours and our guide was very experienced, knowledgeable and willing to answer all our questions. The whole time is inside the building so if you suffer from claustrophobia beware. Make sure you enter the park from Brunnenstrasse, opposite the underground as signs are better from there. There are a lot of steps for the fitter ones but also easier climb via slopes. Wear sturdy shoes, even in summer temps no more than 10°c so warm jacket and/or fleece."

"The nearly 90-meter-high Flak bunker in Humboldthain offers a stunning view over Berlin. You can take a relaxing walk up the hill in a circular path, and in winter, it’s even great for sledding. The divers experiences here are fantastic: from small raves to live concerts and just hanging around. On New Year’s Eve, it’s one of the best spots to watch the city’s fireworks! If you’re lucky, you might even see climbers scaling the bunker wall. The adjacent park is perfect for a picnic and surprisingly well maintained, especially for Wedding. Definitely worth a visit!"

Designed by Gustav Meyer, it was created from 1869 to 1876 to mark the 100th birthday of naturalist Alexander von Humboldt .

Post-war, French forces partially demolished and buried these bunkers beneath rubble, creating two hills: the northern Humboldthöhe (about 84 m) and southern Gustav-Meyer-Höhe with a sledding slope .
