What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Ringbahn is a crucial part of Berlin's transport, offering a comprehensive way to see the city. While many appreciate its network, frequent travelers report issues with punctuality, service disruptions, and strict ticketing enforcement, leading to frustration.
"I have just arrived at the airport and I was informed that S9 isn't working today. What a mess. I have to look at other alternatives to go to my hotel. This is frustarting though."
Ellh Chris
"This is totally scam. I bought a ticket and they charged me 60 euro “because i need to use another machine” and “i need to read everything on that little ticket”.
Or you can upgrade your systems and your ticket can come with validated, but in this way you can’t make money right? Nosense middle age technology"
Ayşe Özbek
"they hire ticket checkers to check your e-ticket(used to be Chip physical card). When the e-Ticket does not show up due to their app issues, they give you super ridiculous fine. And, those checkers are rude and impolite, usually without proper uniform or ID. (they hired such type on purpose) so that they can intimidate you to get your money. U go online and see a lot of non decent actions of these inspectors. For example, the might contain your ID and throw it on the rail if u don’t follow their rude command no matter your ticket is legit or not. Be careful."

🚇 🗺️ Getting There
The Ringbahn (S41/S42) is a circular line that connects many major stations across Berlin. You can access it from almost any S-Bahn or U-Bahn station in the city. Simply look for the S41 (clockwise) or S42 (counter-clockwise) signs.
The Ringbahn is an excellent way to get around the city, especially for reaching areas outside the immediate center. It connects to many U-Bahn lines, allowing for easy transfers.
The Ringbahn itself doesn't go directly to the airport. However, it connects to lines like the S9 and S45 which serve BER Airport. Be sure to check for any service disruptions on these lines.
S41 runs clockwise around the city, while S42 runs counter-clockwise. Both cover the same route, just in opposite directions.
While the entire Ringbahn offers a comprehensive view of Berlin, stations like Treptower Park offer access to green spaces, and Alexanderplatz provides a bustling urban panorama.
🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry
Ticket prices vary based on zones and ticket type (single, day, weekly, monthly). A single ticket for the central zones (A/B) is currently around €3.00. It's best to check the official BVG or DB website for current pricing.
Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines at stations, through the BVG or DB Navigator app, or at BVG customer centers.
Yes, if you buy a paper ticket from a machine, you must validate it (stamp it) at a validation machine before boarding. App tickets are usually validated automatically. Failure to do so can result in a fine.
You risk a hefty fine, often around €60. Ticket inspectors (often in plain clothes) regularly check for valid tickets.
Yes, the Berlin WelcomeCard offers unlimited travel on public transport (including the Ringbahn) and discounts on attractions. Day tickets and group day tickets are also cost-effective options.
🎫 📍 Onsite Experience
Trains typically run every 5-10 minutes during peak hours and every 10-20 minutes during off-peak times and weekends.
Many Ringbahn stations are accessible, but not all. Newer stations and major hubs are generally better equipped. It's advisable to check specific station accessibility beforehand if needed.
Larger stations like Alexanderplatz and Hauptbahnhof offer fast-food outlets, gift shops, and restrooms. Smaller stations have basic waiting areas.
Generally, yes. However, like any urban transport, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially late at night.
While not strictly prohibited, it's generally frowned upon to eat full meals or make a mess. Discreet consumption of snacks and drinks is usually acceptable.
📸 📸 Photography
Try capturing the trains at iconic stations like Alexanderplatz with the TV Tower in the background, or from bridges offering unique perspectives of the tracks.
Generally, personal photography is allowed. However, avoid intrusive filming or photography that might disturb other passengers.
You can capture dynamic shots of trains in motion, architectural details of stations, and the diverse cityscape passing by your window.
Golden hour (sunrise and sunset) offers beautiful lighting. Night shots can also be dramatic with city lights.
Short personal videos are usually fine, but extensive filming might require permission, especially if it impacts other passengers.
