What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Staatsoper Unter den Linden for its stunning architecture and the high quality of its opera and ballet productions. The historical ambiance and central location are frequently highlighted as major draws. However, some find the surtitle visibility inconsistent depending on seating, and ticket prices can be a barrier for some.
"I really love the open-air concerts that the State Opera organizes for the public. I was there this year too, and of course, to ensure we could all enjoy the concert comfortably despite the heat, they had set up drinking water fountains and brought in quite clean portable toilets. I think these once-a-year concerts are delightful events worth following and attending. Seeing people of all ages come together with a shared passion for classical music—despite all kinds of weather and various challenges—feels truly uplifting to me."

"I suggest you really like modern German opera before you get tickets here. There was a woman who got tickets after us and was so excited she asked us to take a photo for her with her ticket. If fact they really liked it, after the performance the German audience gave 3 ovations to the cast. The last one was a standing ovation. That’s how much they loved the performance. Maybe something was lost in the translation, but the story wasn’t too interesting for us. Oh, yes there is an English translation board above the stage. Bring your glasses if you plan on reading it.
The coat check is free and you can get your stuff quickly because the opera house is very small. I suggest getting seats at the balcony and opt for a seat at the center and the front even if it’s on the 3rd balcony, rather than a side seat at the rear of a lower balcony. All the center seats were sold out in our performance. We got the front row on 2nd balcony rather than last row of the 1st balcony."

"Really an amazing building with magnificent architecture on the outside and inside. Entrance was easy to find and really nice and polite staff. Then about the main concert hall: incredible beautifully decorated.
About the specific opera I’ve seen (in july at La Traviata ): Sat on the left wing on the third row and had a great view on the podium. Quality of the sound: perfect. Same counts for the orchestra and singers. To be honest I find it difficult to not compare this opera house to the few best I’ve seen as the METropolitan, Stopera a.o.
Btw: as a student tickets can become very cheap. Buying tickets in advance is highly recommended!"
