Kap Arkona 💚 Leider kann man dort derzeit nicht mehr lang gehen, da die nächsten Abbrüche drohen. Ein paar Tage vor dem großen Abbruch habe ich dort noch entspannte Zeit verbracht.

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Kap Arkona for its stunning natural beauty, iconic lighthouses, and the charming fishing village of Vitt. The panoramic views from the lighthouses are a major highlight. However, some find the facilities basic and note that the area can get very crowded during peak season.

"Worst hotel experience ever. I was asking for toothbrushes- I was told they do not know where they are and to ask the next day again. The room are not very clean. I need to park around 1 kilometer away from the hotel."

Erik Spitzer

"Amazing hotel, at the beach promenade, with big ADD (with good food, quality and breakfast choice), super health and wellness, indoor pool and big Spa (including big beauty saloon and various applications).
Best and only rooftop bar with life music … must visit !
Nice outdoor culinary venues and along many Private Palace Hotels food & beverage outlets along the promenade."

Juergen E. Seidel

"Staff is friendly and location is amazing. The breakfast is plentiful und nice. The spa area is nice but rather small.
The hotel itself is rather old and quite dirty in the common areas. The room was okay and had a nice little balcony but also not the super clean.
Unfortunately we had bed bugs. We immediately got a reduction without any problems so there is at least that.
Be sure to check whether they added the usage of the garage on your tab (they did with us although we came by train )

We expected something way better for that price"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The History and Significance of Kap Arkona

Kap Arkona, meaning 'Cape Arkona,' is a historic promontory on the island of Rügen, Germany. For centuries, it was a significant Slavic pagan cult center, home to the fortress of Jaromarsburg dedicated to the god Svantevit. The site's spiritual importance continued even after Christianization, with the construction of churches and later, the iconic lighthouses. The current lighthouses, built in the early 20th century, replaced earlier structures and stand as prominent navigational aids for ships in the Baltic Sea. The area's dramatic cliffs have also played a role in its history, with tales of shipwrecks and coastal erosion shaping the landscape over time. Instagram

The picturesque fishing village of Vitt, located just a short walk from Kap Arkona, adds another layer to the area's charm. Established in the 19th century, Vitt retains its traditional thatched-roof houses and a small, serene harbor, offering a glimpse into the island's maritime past. Visitors often find Vitt to be a peaceful escape, contrasting with the more exposed nature of the cape itself. Instagram+1

Today, Kap Arkona is a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors with its natural beauty, historical significance, and the opportunity to explore its iconic landmarks. The blend of natural drama and historical depth makes it a compelling destination for many.

Exploring the Lighthouses and Coastal Views

The most prominent features of Kap Arkona are its two distinctive lighthouses. The older, smaller lighthouse, known as the 'Alter Leuchtturm,' was built in 1902 and stands at 19.5 meters. The taller, more modern lighthouse, the 'Neue Leuchtturm,' was constructed in 1927 and reaches a height of 35 meters. Both offer visitors the chance to climb to their observation decks for breathtaking panoramic views of the Baltic Sea, the rugged coastline, and the surrounding landscape. Instagram

The climb to the top is rewarded with sweeping vistas that are particularly stunning during sunrise or sunset. From these vantage points, you can truly appreciate the scale of the chalk cliffs and the vastness of the sea. Be prepared for wind, as it's a common element on this exposed headland. The dramatic interplay of light and shadow on the cliffs can create truly memorable photographic moments. Instagram+1

Beyond the lighthouses, the coastal path offers opportunities to explore the dramatic cliff formations. However, visitors should be mindful of safety warnings regarding cliff erosion. Sticking to designated paths ensures a safe and enjoyable experience while still allowing you to witness the raw beauty of the Baltic coast. Instagram

The Charm of Fischerdorf Vitt

Nestled in a small bay just a short walk from Kap Arkona, the fishing village of Vitt is a postcard-perfect destination. This protected village, established in 1818, is renowned for its beautifully preserved thatched-roof houses, which line the narrow, winding paths. The atmosphere here is one of tranquility and timelessness, offering a stark contrast to the windswept nature of the cape itself. Instagram+1

The village's centerpiece is its charming, historic church, a simple yet elegant structure that adds to the serene ambiance. Visitors can wander through the village, admire the traditional architecture, and soak in the peaceful surroundings. The small harbor, often dotted with local fishing boats, further enhances the authentic maritime feel. Instagram

Many visitors enjoy a leisurely stroll from Kap Arkona to Vitt, often stopping for a traditional fish roll or a refreshing drink at one of the local eateries. It's an ideal spot to relax, take in the scenic beauty, and experience a quieter side of Rügen's coastal charm. Instagram+1
