The museum is noted for its engaging exhibits, including a working steam boat engine and a recreated cinema, all offered at an affordable price. While most reviews are positive, some suggest that utilizing translation tools can enhance the understanding of exhibits.
"Really excellent museum, everything about the history of Bremerhaven is covered. Well worth a visit to understand how the harbour grew and its importance to Germany. The Nazi era is covered respectfully to the victims and the Neolithic period is interesting with plenty of exhibits. They do offer free books to walk around with which contain the written transcripts for the exhibits, but I found it easier to simply use Google translate."

"The museum is beside the Geeste River confluence to the Wesser River. The aesthetically architectural and natural settings is well synchronized. The museum shows the history of Bremerhaven, especially its history of fishing, ice making industry, maritime trade and ship building. The museum has many different sections. I liked the Prehistoric age section very much."

"Quite modern museum where along different rooms we are taken along the history of Bremerhaven, and it's surroundings; since primitive times until the XX century. Nice pieces are displayed along the museum. It was particularly interesting to see part of a 'still working' engine of an old steam boat and the recreation of an old cinema (where it's possible to watch different documentaries)."
