Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Calmont Klettersteig's unique experience hiking through Europe's steepest vineyards with breathtaking Mosel River views. While not a true via ferrata, it offers a challenging and scenic scramble with ladders and rock sections. Some find it less demanding than Alpine via ferratas, but all agree on its stunning beauty and the need for good footwear and preparation.

"A unique experience on the Mosel River. Wonderful views of the river and the vineyards. Can be intimidating but is very safe and well maintained."

Peter Johnson

"Very scenic trail through the steep wineyards with a stunning view of the mosel valley.
I wouldnt call the trail "Via Ferrata" (especially if you already did one in the alps) since its only a couple of short latters. You do NOT need a via ferrata harness. The trail is not that difficult but you should be sure on your feet. On good weather the trail can get busy but also bring a hat and enough to drink, the sun can be intense in these wineyards.

The trail (with return via the Gipfelkreuz through the forest) took me around 2h17min."

M Hoffman

"(See pictures for all climbing elements) Most beautiful walk in the Moezel region, right through the vineyards! The walk takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on your condition. It is possible to walk back along the bottom (by the road) or on top of the mountain. The walk is not suitable for small children or dogs, because there are a number of climbing elements, such as ladders and pins in the rocks. On the pictures you can see all the climbing elements you encounter along the way and an impression of the views. There are a number of places where you can rest in the shade. Bring yourself enough to drink, this is not available along the way. In wet weather the walk is not recommended. Also, mountain shoes are an advantage in order not to slip. Highly recommended this hike!"

The microclimate created by the steep, sun-drenched slopes is ideal for grape growing, producing high-quality wines. This immersive experience allows you to appreciate the hard work involved in maintaining these challenging terrains. Instagram
