What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Transparent Factory Dresden for its unique insight into car manufacturing, especially the live assembly process. The knowledgeable guides and interactive exhibits are highly rated, though some note that production isn't constant. The test drive option and on-site cafe are also appreciated additions to the experience.
"Absolutely recommend! Different models of modern cars presented at entrance; they change time to time.
The excursion was great! It’s affordable with multiple language options. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. They provided the tour of factory during actual shift, letting us see production in real-time up close. All the processes were explained in a way that everyone could understand. We were encouraged to ask questions too.
They also offer free test drive if you have sufficient driver’s license. There’s no designated are for this, you drive in the city, without company worker."

"VW's transparent factory in Dresden is an assembly plant occupying more than 80.000 m2 where visitors can observe the production flow of automobiles. Former models included the short lived Phaeton and Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Lately, the production has been limited to the ID.3 EV vehicles. Please note that there is no 24/7 production at the site. Instead, it is a sporadic activity and there are periods where no active production takes place. There are also paid guided tours that will take you through each step and they are inherently child/family friendly. Those tours continue even when there is no production and they are still worthwhile because you literally get to see a "frozen" snapshot. As an added benefit, you can taste the VW currywurst (which, interestingly but not suprisingly, has a VW part number) in the small restaurant e-VITRUM at the entrance (actually it is a pretty decent dining option and the options are not limited to the currywurst). Highly recommended, if you ever visit this beautiful historical city in Saxony.
p.s. Apparently you can literally pick up your car from the factory if you book it properly and complete your visit with the factory tour which I never did (I am gonna stick with hybrid cars for a while so...)"

"Fully transparent factory, where you can see the production process. It is a good idea to check the time of production shifts in the official website in order to see the process.
There is a big parking place near the factory. The excursions are available in English. The groups are small, you can ask questions after the excursion. It is prohibited to make photos and videos of the production facilities, only the demonstration cars can be photoed. The excursion lasts around 45 minutes, which is enough to understand the tasks of the factory and processes.
There is a cafe and a very beautiful green territory, where you can enjoy coffee before or after the excursion.
The place is unique and highly recommended for visit."
