"Great authentic food, with big portions. The place is very crowded and the serving can take a while. However the waiter is very friendly and fun too. The pork knuckle is big, crispy and tasty. They will keep refilling your beer if they saw your glass is a bit empty."

"We had heard great things about this place, and after visiting family in Paderborn we spent 2 days in Düsseldorf and just had to check it out!
Thought it was such a cool vibe throughout. I don't drink alcohol, but my wife, brother and sister in law took advantage of some super quick service for their beers. Soft drinks are at a minimum (water or apple juice) but I'd 100% recommend the apple juice as it really was nice.
Really loved looking around and I understand why the place is so big as we called back in on the evening and it was PACKED! Staff are friendly and happy honestly you're not waiting long for anything, even when jam packed."

"Generally authentic, nice place. If you’re a tourist,it’s important to know that the beer glasses fly away as soon as you finish it and immediately you got another one😅 so make sure you make the right count how much did you drink. We were 6 at the table, asked to split the bill, the waiter didn’t tell there is only a possibility of cash payments if you split, with the card it’s minimum of 50€. And his answer was that it’s like that in Germany 😅 no other place did tell us the same thing the whole week spent in Dusseldorf."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Art of Altbier
When you visit Uerige, you'll notice the distinctive way the Altbier is served. Waiters move swiftly, refilling your small 0.25-liter glass as soon as it's nearly empty. This practice, known as 'nachschenken,' is a hallmark of the Uerige experience and encourages a continuous flow of conversation and enjoyment. It's a social ritual that's as much a part of the visit as the beer itself.
For those who don't drink alcohol, Uerige offers a surprisingly delightful apple juice that has been praised by visitors. This ensures that everyone can partake in the convivial atmosphere, even if they're not indulging in the signature brew.
A Taste of Rhineland Cuisine
The star of the show for many is the crispy pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe). It's typically slow-roasted to achieve a wonderfully crackling skin and tender, flavorful meat. Another unique and popular item is the pork tartar on bread (Schweinshaxe auf Brot), a local delicacy often enjoyed with onions and pickles.
While the focus is on meat-centric dishes, Uerige's commitment to traditional German fare makes it a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience the local flavors. The lively setting of the brewery enhances the dining experience, making it a memorable part of any Düsseldorf trip.
Navigating the Crowds and Culture
One aspect of the Uerige experience that can surprise first-time visitors is the service style. The constant refilling of beer glasses is efficient but requires patrons to be mindful of their consumption. Additionally, some travelers have noted that splitting bills or using card payments might come with certain conditions, such as minimum spending amounts. Having cash on hand is often recommended to avoid any potential payment hassles.
Despite the potential for crowds and the unique payment nuances, the overall sentiment from visitors is overwhelmingly positive. The friendly staff, the authentic atmosphere, and the delicious offerings create a memorable experience that draws people back time and again. It’s a place where you can truly feel the pulse of Düsseldorf.
