"Currently, the entrance to the building is closed for technical reasons. However, it is a picturesque architectural monument, one of the most attractive places in the city center, the mill wheel is visible through the glass wall, the pond and dam are maintained in working order, the water bubbles very beautifully, ducks often swim, and if you are lucky, you can see a heron. Opposite, on the opposite side of the bridge, right in the middle of the river there are flower beds."

A Glimpse into Erfurt's Industrial Past
Despite the building's closure due to structural damage, the exterior remains a point of interest. The undershot Zuppinger waterwheel is still visible through a glass wall, offering a tangible connection to the past. The surrounding area, with its pond and dam, is maintained and provides a picturesque setting, often frequented by local wildlife.
This site serves as a reminder of how cities like Erfurt historically relied on water power for industry. While visitors can no longer explore the internal machinery, the external view and the historical context of the 'New Mill' (a name retained since its 1735 reconstruction) offer a valuable insight into the region's technological development.
Experiencing the Riverside Ambiance
Visitors often report seeing ducks swimming in the water, and if you're lucky, you might even spot a heron, adding a touch of natural charm to the urban setting. Across the bridge, vibrant flower beds further enhance the visual appeal, creating a delightful contrast with the historical mill structure.
This riverside setting is particularly enjoyable during pleasant weather, making it a great place for a short break or a quiet moment amidst your city explorations.
