Visitors praise the Bleckkirche for its historical significance, particularly its 16th-century Renaissance altar, and its role as a vibrant 'Church of Cultures' hosting high-caliber events like world music concerts. "On the way to the zoo in Gelsenkirchen, we saw a small Protestant church near the zoo entrance. It is said to be the oldest surviving Protestant church in Gelsenkirchen...
The sign on the church wall told us that this church is called Bleck Church. The foundation stone for this Protestant church was laid in the 17th century.
It was rebuilt in 1889 and has probably retained its current appearance ever since.
Today, in 2023, Bleck Church is a Protestant synodal city church under the Gelsenkirchen-Wattenscheid church administration.
In this historic church building, services and church celebrations are still held at certain times. This church is also a church of cultures. Regardless of one's denomination, this Protestant Bleck Church is available for exhibitions, concerts, readings, and probably much more.
We would have loved to see the inside of this interesting church. Unfortunately, the church doors were closed to us on April 15, 2023, from approximately 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
I was only able to take a few photos of the exterior of Bleck Church..."

"[...]. is, on the one hand, a place for special services and church celebrations, and, on the other hand, is used as a "Church of Cultures" for intercultural work such as exhibitions, concerts, theater, readings, and the like. As a church for the city, it invites everyone interested in this connection, regardless of denomination, church membership, or religious affiliation. Pastor Thomas Schöps has been responsible for the project since 1996.""

"A real highlight, both the old church with its breathtaking 16th-century Renaissance architecture and the excellent cultural events, usually world music concerts, are truly special.
We've spent many wonderful evenings there with original, authentic music of a high or even the highest standard.
Next door is the extraordinary Zoom experience world, and just a little further on is the Starchief Diner, a restaurant reminiscent of the 1950s in the USA. You can spend a whole wonderful day in this corner.
But the 5 stars are for the church and its events ;-))"
