What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the MARKK Museum for its fascinating and diverse collections, particularly highlighting the Korean and nomadic exhibitions. The beautiful historic building and the kindness of staff are also frequently mentioned positives. However, some find the limited English translations a drawback, potentially shortening the visit for non-German speakers.
"The museum, housed in a historic building, offers a fascinating collection of handicrafts, carvings, masks, jewelry, and garments. Also on display are nomadic architecture and artifacts from the South Seas, Fiji, Egypt and New Zealand. Treasures from Ecuador and the Andes enrich the collection. Particularly interesting is the representation of Chile with its nitrate and lithium salts and the historical connection to Hamburg. Korea is impressively presented from modern times back to the Joseon period."

"I was expecting more from this museum based on the reviews. But sadly, I was disappointed. Most exhibits were in German (to be expected), but I feel it also limits the enjoyment of the museum for those who aren't fluent in the language. Last but not least, there wasn't much to see in the museum itself. If you can't read German or have someone with you that can, your visit will probably be very quick! If you're into history, go, if not, don't go!
