What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Nahe-Felsen-Weg is a highly recommended, albeit challenging, hike offering stunning panoramic views of the Nahe Valley and Idar-Oberstein. Visitors praise its natural beauty and the unique cultural sights like the Felsenkirche. However, some find the traffic noise disruptive in certain sections and note the demanding terrain requires good fitness and proper footwear.
"We hiked the trail with our two kids and our dog. We parked at the hiking car park above the castle and hiked the loop in two parts over two days.
Definitely challenging! Proper footwear is a must. Not stroller-friendly 😁. Due to the elevation gain, you should have a certain level of fitness.
The paths were quite steep in places (we like that), and the views were stunning.
There are also several geocaches along the trail that you can collect.
Highly recommended!"

"First off: this review is from the perspective of a barefoot hiker, hence the 4-star rating. There are quite a few paved sections and some very rocky stretches, which can be a challenge when hiking barefoot.
Otherwise, the Traumschleife (Dream Loop) is a wonderful hike. Right from the start, the trail leads through the forest on narrow paths. After a short, very rocky section, you reach the "Felsenklippchen" (Little Rock Cliff) viewpoint via more narrow paths. Here you can enjoy the sun and the view.
The trail then descends towards the Nahe River; a detour to the riverbank is definitely worthwhile, until another very beautiful section begins just beyond the Altenberg Tunnel portal. A rocky path leads over a rocky outcrop above the Nahe River bend to the Götzplatz viewpoint.
After that, the Felsenpfad (Rocky Path) is more captivating for its stunning views of the Nahe Valley and Idar-Oberstein. A visit to the Bosselstein Castle ruins is definitely recommended. Due to the tourism of the city of Idar-Oberstein, the paths from Götzplatz back to the hiking parking lot are almost entirely paved."

"The Felsenkirche (Rock Church), Oberstein Castle, and the Bosselstein Castle ruins are cultural highlights of a hike through the extensive forests surrounding the town of Idar-Oberstein, which boasts a gemstone history dating back over 500 years.
In the extensive forest area surrounding Idar-Oberstein, you hike along narrow paths, pass through deeply incised stream valleys, and climb several meters in elevation via "Stairways to Heaven." Steep ascents and descents alternate with flat sections through dense beech forest.
The trail starts directly in Oberstein's old town - refreshment stops and sights such as the Felsenkirche (Rock Church), the German Mineral Museum, and the Jakob Bengel Industrial Monument are in the immediate vicinity. From the beginning, the trail passes the Felsenkirche (Rock Church) and the castle grounds. From the castle courtyard, you have a fantastic view of the town.
