What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally praise the Steinkaulenberg Gemstone Mine for its unique underground experience and the interactive nature of the tours, especially for children. The opportunity to dig for gemstones is a major draw. However, some have noted issues with accessing certain activities despite having tickets and the uphill walk to the entrance can be challenging.
"This was really fun for everyone. The tour guide was interactive with the children, asking them questions and telling stories. The mine itself is amazing to get to tour. There is a little shop at the entrance where you can buy stones of course but they also have food and drink.
We did have one problem, I purchased tickets for my children to dig in the sand pit and for some reason the man supervising wouldn't let us in. First he told me that I was in the wrong place and needed to go to the parking lot. This was clearly a lie so I had my husband go and try to take them and he wouldn't let them in then either even though we had tickets and were definitely in the right place. Any way if it weren't for this I would give it five stars."

"I really enjoyed touring this cave! It was a nice treat and the workers were super nice! It was so cool seeing the crystals and cool rock formations inside the cave and the cool lights that reflected on the water and walls. You can’t beat a cave tour for $8 and the hike down to the cave was nice and relaxing. Definitely purchase tickets in advance!"

"I could only get a ticket for the last tour of the day at 4pm. So then I booked a ticket for the historische weiherschleife for 2pm, figuring I would have one hour after the historische weiherschleife to get to the mine. I had one hour and Google maps said the walk was 35min so I decided to walk. However, the walk was entirely uphill, fairly steep at parts and I have bad knees. It took me one hour to get to the parking lot and ten minutes plus to get to the mine entrance- I was sore and exhausted. I had read that the employees were unfriendly and unhelpful, so I wrote off the tour but still wanted to see the entrance. One of the employees was taking a photo for a group- I told him my situation. He asked to see my ticket, ran and got me a helmet, and took me to join the tour. The tourguide was also welcoming and friendly. The tour was amazing. Btw, the uphill walk from the weiherschleife to the mine was spectacular scenery. There was a bus stop at the mine parking lot that I used to catch a bus back to the train station."
