The building itself is a national monument and owned by the city of Karlsruhe. Surprisingly, the building's heating system is fired with fossil oil, so not exactly what one would expect when visiting a 'Naturschutzzentrum'. The city of Karlsruhe committed itself to a climate-neutral administration by 2040 at the latest (which is not very ambitious). Way to go, Karlsruhe!"
